Not only is Fremantle in WA, one of the most unique places in the world, it is also home to Australia’s longest running festival.
Now in its 107th year, the Fremantle Festival is packed with special events and happenings bursting with verve and Freo-style.
This year the Fremantle Festival joins forces with the Blessing of the Fleet to open 15 days of activities and events across the port city. It will be a memorable opening with the Blessing of the Fleet parade leading down to the Fishing Boat Harbour, combined with the inaugural Seafood Festival on the boardwalks followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
“Fishing is a major part of Fremantle’s identity along with our cultural and artistic history, so the joining of these two unique community celebrations makes this years Fremantle Festival a milestone event for the City,” says Fremantle Mayor, Brad Pettit.
A highlight of the 2012 Festival will see three breathtaking performances by French aerial dance company Retouramount, who will make their Australian debut with Fremantle Festival exclusive performances of their show Cette Immense Intimite.
Each year the community brings the Fremantle Festival to fruition by contributing to the program with over 100 different cultural events. This year the Woolstores Shopping Centre will be filled with handmade design and art exhibitions, the Fremantle Arts Centre will kick o! their courtyard music program, and the west end of Fremantle will come to life with fashion, galleries and local films.
The Festival has an extensive program with annual events such as the Wardarnji Aboriginal Cultural Festival, Co!ee Festival, Children’s Fiesta, Norfolk Lanes Youth Festival, Black Box Theatre, Town Hall Program and the Festival finale, the Street Parade.
There's no doubt Freo is alive with entertainment, colour, great food and family fun all-year-round and the Annual Fremantle Festival brings this port city's culture and community together for a giant fiesta not to be missed!
The 2012 Festival runs from October 28 through to November 11. For more information on fabulous Fremantle and festival program and highlights visit the website.
