Celebrity Holidays

Life is tough for modern celebrities – even they need a break sometimes too! But where do stars go for a little luxury R&R? We’ve rounded up the A-list of getaway destinations for famous families – from tropical Caribbean hideaways to chic French resorts. So if you’re searching for a bit of sun, sea and celeb-spotting read on…

1. Caribbean

Saint Lucia has long been a hidden holiday destination for the rich and famous.  The island’s fave hideaway is Anse Chastenet resort where you can stay in treehouse style suites and eco-chic cabins. Or, head to Saint Barts (the ‘St Tropez of the Caribbean’) and book in at Eden Rock Hotel. For added Hollywood bling stay at Villa Rockstar with its garage stocked with cars and motorbikes and a media room with sound and film editing capabilities.

Spotted: Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis and children Jack and Lily Rose, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart with son Liam, plus  Tom Hanks, Uma Thurman, Kate Moss and their respective families.

2. Africa

Whether it’s climbing mountains, adopting babies or heading out on luxury safaris, Africa is fast becoming a favourite holiday spot for models, media magnates, musicians and movie stars. Glowing in a post World-Cup glow, South Africa has become the must-visit destination for anyone who’s anyone. And it was in Namibia that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt hired the entire Burning Shore Lodge for the birth of their Shiloh.

Spotted: Angelina and Brad with their giant brood, Madonna with kids Lourdes and Rocco, Oprah, Bill Gates, Sean Connery and Kayne West.

3. Barbados

The birthplace of singer Rihanna, and home to Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones, this island is a perennial celebrity magnet and is famed for its extreme luxury lodgings and stunning beaches. Whether snorkelling in turquoise waters or sipping cocktails by the pool, you could easily find yourself neighbours with Jude Law and Sienna Miller with his kids Rafferty, Iris and Rudy or perhaps the Victoria and David Beckham with their brood of boys.

Spotted: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and kids Willow and Jaden, Sting and Trudie Styler and family.

4. Hawaii

Maui is noted for the quality of its celebrity visitors almost as much as for the quality of its surfing and sparkling ocean and it has long been a Hawaiian haven for A-list guests (well it is close to LA, darling). Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber have a holiday home here – hire it out in the off season for around $35,000 a month. The beautiful Four Seasons Resort at Wailea is understandably one of the most popular resorts on Maui.

Spotted: Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale with sons Kingston and Zuma; Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck with kids Violet and Seraphina; Meg Ryan and daughter Daisy True; Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves with sons Vida and Levi.

5. South of France

The young, rich and famous flock to the glamorous resort of St Tropez every year. While most of us have to settle for a hotel room, some celebs opt for the more glitzy option of a yacht. On the Cote d’Azur, The Mentalist star Simon Baker likes to take a break with wife Rebecca and kids Stella, Claude and Harry while Naomi Watts has been spotted at exclusive Eden-Roc Hotel with kids Sam and Sacha.

Spotted: Angelina and Brad and their family of six, P Diddy and his brood, U2’s Bono and The Edge and their kids plus the Beckhams, who are big fans of the jet set life in St. Tropez.
