After a two-year hiatus thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vivid, Sydney’s spectacular light festival is back in 2022! Discover all the family-friendly highlights.
1. Vivid opening night
The festival will kick off on Friday May 27 with First Light, a moving Welcome to Country ceremony and performance celebrating the Gadigal people and Country. It will include a smoking ceremony, performances by NAISDA students, a pyrotechnic display and Sharing the Same Life Essence Sydney Harbour Bridge pylon projections.
2. The longest continuous light walk in Vivid Sydney’s history
This year’s event will also feature the longest continuous light walk in Vivid Sydney’s history. Stretching for eight kilometres from the Sydney Opera House to Central Station, it is set to transform the Harbour City into a brilliantly illuminated canvas.
3. Saturday sing-alongs at Tumbalong Park
While there’s plenty going on that will appeal to families, Vivid Kids at Tumbalong is a stand-out. From 5pm each Saturday during the festival, Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour will be hosting free entertainment featuring The Vegetable Plot, the ARIA Award-winning Teeny Tiny Stevies and Playschool’s Zindzi with her band The Zillionaires.
4. Sydney Infinity – Darling Harbour
Also taking place at Darling Harbour is Sydney Infinity, the largest liquid and light show that Australia has ever seen. Designed with more than 250 metres of robotic fountains, it will see water being blasted up to 80 metres into the air, accompanied by a Sydney-specific musical soundtrack.
5. Wild Lights at Taronga Zoo
See Taronga Zoo bathed in a rainbow of colour, with innovative installations and projections. Creatures from land, sky and sea emerge in a visual spectacle through the magic of light.
