Located in the heart of Japan’s capital

Situated in the heart of Shinjuku, the Keio Plaza Hotel is just five minutes walk from the breathtakingly busy Shinjuku Station where more than 3.5 million people transit every day. There are frequent services from here to destinations across Tokyo and beyond, including express services direct to Narita Airport.

Why we stayed in Keio Plaza Hotel

Aside from its incredible views across Tokyo’s city skyline, we were drawn to the Keio Plaza Hotel to experience its exclusive ‘Premier Grand’ Club Floor. It’s like a hotel within a hotel, with luxurious rooms, a private lounge and restaurant for the use of Club Floor guests, as well as a dedicated concierge service for helping with restaurant reservations and booking family-friendly activities. The hotel’s central location in Shinjuku was also part of its appeal, with shopping, entertainment and super-efficient transport services right outside the front door.

Accommodation in Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo

There are 1,450 rooms to choose from and we settled on one of the magnificent Club Room Premier Grands, with a design aesthetic of east meets west. There are various bedding configuration options to suit your family, with a bath and shower room that’s like a mini onsen. Natural toiletries from L’Occitane en Provence combine with traditional Italian bed sheets for a luxurious experience, while the super-absorbent towels are direct from Shikoku, where they have been produced for more than 120 years. If you’re specifically after a Japanese experience, opt for one of their Tatami Suites where traditional beds will be prepared for you each evening. For a taste of Japanese kawaii (the culture of cuteness), head to sister hotel the Keio Plaza Hotel Tama to bunk down in one of its ‘Hello Kitty’ or ‘My Melody’-themed rooms. The hotel is conveniently located just five minutes’ walk from the indoor theme park Sanrio Puroland.

‘Universal’ rooms with wheel-chair-accessible

Keio Plaza Hotel’s ‘Universal’ rooms are designed for wheelchair accessibility, with plenty of space to move around and features such as electric reclining beds and bathroom grab bars. They’re all situated on the 30th floor where there’s also a nursery and doctor’s clinic.

11 restaurants to choose from throughout the hotel

Away from the crowds, the Club Lounge offers a relaxed atmosphere to begin each day, with a buffet breakfast featuring Japanese and international favourites. But with 11 restaurants to choose from throughout the hotel, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. From teppanyaki at Yamanami to sushi at Kyubey and the global buffet at Glass Court, there are plenty of options, whether you want to test your Japanese taste buds or appease fussy eaters. And that’s not even getting started on the myriad eateries that are clustered in the surrounding streets! The Keio Plaza Hotel also has its own convenience store where you can pick up pot noodles, fresh fruit and sweet treats.

Explore family-friendly activities in Tokyo

Tokyo is brimming with family-friendly activities that are all just a short train ride away. You can glimpse the city’s alternative teenage cultures in the streets of Harajuku or head to Tama to be immersed in the world of ‘Hello Kitty’. Poetic performance art is showcased at the National Noh Theatre (with this ancient musical drama recognised as an Intangible Cultural Property by UNESCO), while the traditional Japanese garden of Shinjuku Gyoen is just a stone’s throw away. Planning a Disney visit? As one of the ‘Tokyo Disney Resort Good Neighbour Hotels’, Keio Plaza Hotel has complimentary shuttle bus services directly to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea.
