Canberra offers interesting attractions and fun activities for all ages, making the city a destination that will keep the whole family happy. With many attractions and activities having no entry charge, a visit to Canberra can make your family holiday budget stretch a little further!

Kids will love The Pod Playground at the National Arboretum Canberra and the Discovery Playground at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.  Enjoy a walk through the Sanctuary wetlands, see if you can spot the resident platypus or koalas and enjoy lunch at one of the scenic picnic spots. Cycle around Lake Burley Griffin, visit the Australian National Botanic Gardens, and enjoy the changing colours of the leaves.

During the April 2019 school holidays, Jerrabomberra Wetlands is offering a special holiday program from 15-24 April (excluding public holidays) with activities such as Wetlands Treasure walks and Aboriginal bush painting. At Glebe Park, right next to Crowne Plaza Canberra, ‘Playful Endeavour 2019’ offers a collection of found objects and manufactured materials, to encourage creative play and social interaction for kids (13-26 April).

When it’s cold outside, the city’s museums and galleries offer so many options. Enjoy an interactive experience at the National Portrait Gallery with the Headhunt! mobile app, discover stories about Australian history at the National Museum of Australia, have fun with hands-on science activities at Questacon, and lots more.

Held annually over the Easter long weekend, the National Folk Festival returns from 18-22 April with over 750 events from music genres including acoustic, bluegrass, roots and folk. KidzFest is a special area for younger visitors and their families with activities on offer each day.  On Easter Sunday, the Great Easter Egg Trail at the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) offers a chocolate prize for visitors who follow the trail clues and solve the riddle!

Also during the April 2019 school holidays are sporting events including the Australian Dragon Boat Championships (17-22 April), the Australian Running Festival (13-14 April) with the inaugural ‘Kids Dash’, a 1km race for primary school aged children, the Shimano Mountain Bike Grand Prix Round 5 (13 April), and the AFL Giants v Fremantle (20 April).
