Set to ignite Darling Quarter’s Village Green throughout January, the 2019 Night Owls Kids’ Film Festival kicked off on January 4 with a selection of family-friendly flicks. From “Peter Rabbit” to “Paddington 2” and Pixar’s newest creation “Coco”, families are invited to experience 17 (warm) evenings accompanied by free films designed to entertain both young and old.
Settle into the sounds of live musical entertainment each night from 6 pm, followed by a range of entertaining short films from Australia and beyond as part of the Little Big Shots children’s short film fest. These include colourful animations and engaging documentaries focusing on world cultures, emotional intelligence and human values.
Then grab the popcorn and ready yourselves for the 6:45 pm screening of outdoor summer features that have been selected specifically with families in mind. They include new release blockbuster hits and classic family favourites, with a few singalongs thrown in.
If the kids have nodded off into a slumber, parents can stay to enjoy the After-Hours screenings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the season, with films starting from 8:30 pm. See two Aussie favourites on the big screen in “Thor: Ragnarok” or discover what all the fuss was about while watching the massive superhero hit “Black Panther”. The summer season will be closing out this year with “Sweet Country”, a multi-award-winning Australian “Western” by the talented Warwick Thornton.
Darling Quarter boasts plenty of dining options where you can grab a bite to eat before the film or pick up some takeout sushi, pizza or gelato to enjoy during the show. This contemporary cultural precinct is also home to one of Australia’s most innovative playgrounds, with climbing ropes, water features and a flying fox, giving you one more reason to turn up early!
