Last Christmas, Sydney’s iconic Queen Victoria Building welcomed a very special visitor.
A very Victorian Father Christmas greeted children from his bejewelled throne in the bespoke QVB Crystal Garden designed to replicate the beauty of the North Pole.
This year, Santa is in residence again and, for the first time ever, the cavernous central dome of the Queen Victoria Building, home to the iconic QVB Swarovski Christmas Tree, will be transformed into a giant, real life snow dome as snow falls from the ancient stained glass ceiling.
Proving that sometimes seeing really is believing, snow will cascade beautifully onto the 24-metre tall QVB Swarovski Christmas Tree during select times every Thursday (6pm), Saturday and Sunday (on the hour at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm) from 17th November – 2nd December. The snowfall will enchant children as they wait to sit on Santa’s knee and stop busy shoppers and CBD workers in their tracks, reminding them of the magic of Christmas.
In the Crystal Garden children are transported to another world filled with crystal flowers, butterflies and blossom trees, underneath a glittering canopy of crystals.
Mums and dads are encouraged to bring their children to pose in what will undoubtedly be Sydney’s most beautiful Christmas portraits! Every child will leave with their picture-perfect memento, as well as a traditional wooden toy, harking back to the nostalgia of Victorian times.
There will be a large range of photo package options to choose from, from wallet-sized photos to larger portraits. In the week leading up to Christmas Day, the QVB will operate in extended trading hours, meaning even more opportunities to visit Santa. To check Santa’s visiting hours, go to the QVB website.
To complete the magical Christmas experience, QVB will play host to a series of live musical performances during December, including Christmas carol singers, The Australian Girls Choir and live jazz sessions from The Acca Daiquiris. A premium gift-wrapping service will also be offered to busy shoppers in exchange for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the Barnardos.
Santa Claus will be in residence until Saturday, December 24, 2012
