The Rees Hotel, Luxury Apartments & Lakeside Residences
Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand and the award-winning five-star Rees Hotel provides a perfect base for exploring the dramatic surrounding landscape. In the summer months, the region is a popular destination for hiking or cycling through the surrounding mountains, and in winter, the ski bunnies come to town.
Positioned lakeside just outside picturesque Queenstown, The Rees Hotel is within easy reach of the South Island’s large ski resorts – The Remarkables and Coronet Peak – and just an hour’s drive from Cardona and Treble Cone, yet far enough from the bustling town centre to provide a tranquil retreat. The hotel looks out over Lake Wakatipu, with the surrounding Southern Alps forming a picture-postcard perfect view as they reflect on the lake’s placid surface.
This boutique resort offers various luxurious accommodation options, including 60 rooms, 90 apartments and five new, private 3 bedroom 3.5 bathroom Lakeside Residences, all with terraces and outdoor spas, providing spectacular alpine views over the lake, each serviced by a personal Luxury Travel Curator to seamlessly ensure your experience is authentic, first-class and stress-free.
The hotel rooms and apartments are spacious, quiet and sophisticated, and all offer complimentary wifi, parking and selection of over 200 movies plus a fully equipped fitness centre. The hotel and Residences are serviced by True South Dining Room the hotel’s award-winning restaurant.
Lakeside, the hotel has its own private beach where guests can swim (in summer) and a private wharf which allows access to jet-boat and water taxi services.
Bike hire is available at the hotel, and a complimentary shuttle bus runs hourly into the town centre, providing easy access to the surrounding attractions. The hotel offers in-room Body Sanctum treatments for those who’d rather indulge in relaxation than outdoor exercise.
Food and Beverage
The Rees Hotel is known for its award-winning True South Dining Room and the executive chef, rising culinary star Ben Batterbury. Menus change monthly to showcase the best of the locally sourced seasonal produce with an authentic New Zealand flavour which may be accompanied by a selection from Bordeau, the extensive wine cellar. Regular exclusive culinary series dinners are scheduled featuring local and Central Otago wineries.
Queenstown is the home to adventure sports – both jet-boating and bungy jumping were invented here – and of course there is skiing, snowboarding, mountain-bike riding, horse riding and skydiving. It’s also a great base for hiking, with multiple alpine trails nearby the hotel. For those who like a good drop, several regional vineyards and cellar doors are close by.
Transfers are available from The Rees Hotel to Queenstown Airport and nearby ski resorts, and the hotel is a great base to come back to after a hard day’s skiing or boarding; perhaps to indulge in a spa treatment, or simply enjoy a hot chocolate or a mulled wine in the cosy Bordeau Wine Bar.
OAWK Tip: All Queenstown activities, tours, lift tickets and ski lessons can all be organised by the hotel’s concierge free of charge.
