If you’ve got a little LEGO lover in your family – which is highly likely – a trip to a LEGOLAND theme park should be on the bucket list before they get too old for it. But with so many options around the world, which should you choose? Here are some of our faves
1. LEGOLAND Japan Resort
With more than 40 rides, shows and attractions across eight themed lands, LEGOLAND Japan Resort is a fantastic choice for families considering a trip to The Land of the Rising Sun. Take a tour of the LEGO factory to see how the bricks are made, soak up the views from the colourful Observational Tower, and enjoy a LEGO submarine adventure! The theme park is located in Aichi prefecture, around 260 kilometres south-west of Tokyo and 30 minutes’ drive from Nagoya, which is also home to Toyota’s headquarters and the beautiful Nagoya Castle.
There are several family-friendly hotels to stay, including Nagoya Prince Hotel Sky Tower in the 37-storey Global Gate skyscraper, and The Strings Hotel Nagoya, which has a bullet train running direct from nearby Sasashima Raibu to LEGOLAND. The Royal Park Canvas Nagoya is only five minutes’ walk from Nagoya Station, while Vessel Hotel Campana Nagoya is nine minutes’ walk from the station and has a large public bath with a sauna, and bed-sharing children can stay for free. It makes a great add on to a Japan ski holiday!
2. LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort
Encompassing a theme park, a water park and SEA LIFE Aquarium, there’s loads of fun to be had at this attraction in Johor, near the Singapore border in Malaysia’s south. Journey into a forgotten world of dinosaurs and pharaohs in Land of Adventure, see miniature versions of Asia’s iconic landmarks (including Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers and India’s Taj Mahal) at MINILAND, and cross a drawbridge to enter a magnificent castle in KINGDOMS. The kids will also love staying in a pirate, adventure or Ninja-themed room at LEGOLAND Hotel, where you can dance along to the music in the LEGO-themed elevator, swim in the pool and dine alongside LEGO characters at Bricks Family Restaurant.
3. LEGOLAND California Resort
Build, test and race your own LEGO Ferrari at LEGOLAND California Resort, which is 30 minutes’ drive north of San Diego and around an hour south of Anaheim, where Disneyland Resort is located. The theme park has more than 60 rides, shows, and attractions, including the SEA LIFE aquarium and LEGOLAND Water Park. Choose between staying at LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND Castle Hotel, both of which are only steps away from the park and feature themed guest rooms and a separate sleeping area for kids, along with an in-room treasure hunt with prizes, a heated, resort-style pool and complimentary breakfast daily.
4. LEGOLAND Dubai Resort
The theme park at this popular stopover destination has six themed lands, including the first indoor, air-conditioned MINILAND at a LEGOLAND park. One of the highlights of the park is the Icon Dragon, which is made from nearly 400,000 LEGO bricks! You can also see famous landmarks from the UAE and Middle East region, including Burj Khalifa, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Egyptian Pyramids, at MINILAND, and build your own LEGO raft and go on a splash safari at LEGOLAND Water Park. There’s also a LEGOLAND Hotel just 130 kids’ steps away from the park entrance. It’s an ideal place to spend a couple of days to break up a trip to Europe with kids!
5. LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
Just 45 minutes’ from London, LEGOLAND Windsor Resort offers a fun family side trip during a trip to the UK. It has an incredible 12 themed lands, including a parallel universe where LEGO creatures come to life called LEGO MYTHICA, Kingdom of Pharaohs and (this being England) Knight’s Kingdom. There are more than 55 rides and attractions where children can fly through the treetops to escape fearsome dragons, ride the thrilling rapids with a Viking fleet and join LEGO divers on a magical underwater adventure. At the end of the day, little princes and princesses can retire to their own royal quarters – one of the kingdom-themed rooms at the adjoining LEGOLAND Hotel. With bunting, shields and flags above the bed, this LEGO kingdom is certainly up to royal standards. It’s one of seven types of themed rooms at the hotel.
6. LEGOLAND New York Resort
An hour or so north of New York City in the beautiful Hudson Valley, LEGOLAND New York Resort opened in 2022, bringing another awesome option for families heading stateside. See some of the United States’ most iconic attractions, including the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore and San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, at MINILAND, which is one of seven themed lands at the park. Cool off at the Water Playground, where you can build and race a LEGO boat, splash on water slides, and be doused by a giant tipping water bucket. There’s also a LEGOLAND Hotel, which has a heated resort-style pool, and all the usual experiences that make LEGOLAND hotels around the world so much fun!
