Head to Sciencentre and explore scientific concepts and bring everyday science to life!
Over the holidays, a variety of science theatre will be on show in the Sciencentre. Topics include:
- Balloon Show – Explore rockets, explosions, a bed of nails and more, all with an everyday balloon
- Sound Show – Be prepared to shake and vibrate as we explore the science of sound. How loud and how high can we go?
- Electricity Show – generate electrical energy from potatoes, magnets and more.
- Space Show: Blast off into the amazing science of space! Explore light, gravity, vacuums, the solar system, rockets and more. It’s out of this world!
It’s all about kids at Australia Fair!
Head to The Good Dinosaur Interactive Zone for great holiday fun! ‘Make your Mark’ with FREE craft activities, plus challenge your friends to the Gopher Challenge and see how many Gophers you can catch!

Fun for kids @ the State Library
There’s always fun and games for kids at the State Library of Queensland.

Wind tubes at the Ipswich Art Gallery
Design and build your very own flying creation to test in the Wind Tubes. See your creation take flight and soar to the ceiling, and defy gravity by hovering high overhead…. or just fall to the floor. It’s all about air and invention, with a little bit of mid-air mayhem.
Make a flying creation out of everyday materials and launch it into large, clear vertical tubes of moving air. Wind Tubes is a fun, interactive exhibition for the whole family. There’s a special space for children under 2 and exclusive sessions for toddlers to enjoy.

Family fun at Surfers Paradise Kids Week
Kids Week is on until Friday 23 September and the free, family-friendly entertainment program will feature daily live shows, amusement rides, interactive workshops and more spread throughout the Surfers Paradise precinct!
See the stars of Paw Patrol in free daily shows at 10am and 12.30pm, and daily meet-and-greet sessions at 11am provide a very special opportunity for children to get up close for a cuddle and even have their photo taken with their favourite furry characters.
Lively entertainment for the little ones includes face painting, a kid-focused beat boxing show, arts and crafts activities, carnival rides and more!
Infinity is fun for the whole family
Infinity is an all-ages attraction that takes visitors through 20 different worlds of illusion, mirrors, lights and special effects to do with space. Kids under 3 go free.

Spring flowering fun at Toowoomba
Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers (until 25 September) is a blooming good time for the whole family. This year’s theme Carnival Comes to Town – Laugh, Play, Hooray! will see street performers, carnival characters, incredible inflatables and stilt walkers escort the stunning floral floats on their journey to Queens Park.
There’s also a fantastic free Kids Day Out in Queens Park, steam train rides and a ‘hop-on-hop-off’ shuttle around the stunning prize-winning gardens (free for kids and just $5 for mums and dads).
Farm fun for all
Paddock to Potager is a small working farm rearing free-range pigs and chooks, lambs, ducks, geese and dairy cows; and they grow seasonal fresh vegetables and herbs. Take part in the Little Farmhouse Harvest tours and workshops for kids on this working farm.
Holiday fun at the Cobb & Co Museum
The interactive Cobb & Co Museum is great for kids – and the wonderful holiday programs include hands on activities and learning through fun, with themed holiday programs for 3-12 year olds.
Themes include megafauna, insects, reptiles, science experiments and interactive trails.
There are school holiday teen workshops to learn traditional skills such as lead lighting and stick furniture making.
Back to nature at the Woolshed
The Woolshed at Jondaryan runs wonderful school holiday programs that let kids get up close and personal with sheep and other farm animals. See sheep being shorn, have billy tea and damper, see horseshoes being made – and experience life as it was on a working sheep station.
You can camp, stay in well-equipped cabins or bring your caravan … there are powered sites with a great bush kitchen and open fire pit.

Mackay Regional Council runs a range of school holiday activities … Look and learn at Artspace, located in the heart of Mackay. Artspace is a modern art gallery and museum and hosts a range of school holiday workshops and attractions to inspire young and old.
Get outdoors and enjoy learning in a natural environment at the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens with the school holiday activities and The Mackay Regional Council Libraries also run a number of school holiday activities to keep your kids learning in an interactive and fun way.
The Pioneer Valley Country Music Festival is a three day family-friendly event with some of Australia’s best country music artists and lots of entertainment for the whole family. The festival runs from Friday 30 September to Sunday 2 October at the Finch Hatton Showgrounds.
