 puppet workshops, interactive performances and art making activities that celebrate the ideas and imaginations of the smallest members of the community.

A day out with Thomas and friends

Take the kids for a day out with Thomas … as well as some magic fun, at The Workshops Rail Museum. Kids will enjoy hands-on Thomas activities, dress up as a magician and try out some magic tricks, meet Thomas and the Fat Controller and make their own craft creation to take home. And don’t forget the indoor adventure playground and expansive grounds to run around in!

Entry to the Museum and all exhibits is included in your entry ticket. There’s fun for the whole family, with the huge model railway, genuine locomotives and vintage carriages and the train simulator.

Body Zone has four themes: Body Works lets you explore important parts of the human body and discover how they work together to keep you going; Body Challenge – investigate how fitness and strength relate to performance and take the challenge; Sense Ability shows how our body receives information to understand the world around us; and Mind Benders tells how we perceive and construct understanding from information around us.

Rev up your Lego building skills for Built for Speed by Ipswich Art Gallery. Design, build and race your Lego hot rod, dragster or supercar down racing ramps or slick jump tracks. Modify your ride for extra speed then re-race your turbocharged wheels for ultimate victory!

Be trackside at the Orion Shopping Centre for free summer holiday fun. Drop in anytime and stay as long as you like. Sessions run from 9am-3pm daily (until 7pm Thursdays) from 4 – 15 January.

Santa fun for everyone!

Sanctuary Cove - Christmas Carnival 02

The Sanctuary Cove Christmas Carnival transforms the Marina into a festive wonderland of sparkling fairy lights, stunning decorations, roving entertainers and a raft of free entertainment, until 20 December.

With activities running daily from 11am to 2pm, children will delight in the free Christmas fun, including ‘reindeer’ (pony) rides, Village train and ferry rides, an animal farm, face painting and jumping castles.

There are daily appearances from the big man himself and on Saturday 19 December 19 enjoy a special open-air Christmas movie screening at Sanctuary Cove’s cinema under the stars, from 6.30pm – 8.30pm.

Gold Coast turns on Santa fun and games

Carols on the Beach - Surfers Paradise

Christmas in Surfers Paradise brings all the magic of the season to the precinct in a free family-friendly entertainment spectacular. Running until Thursday 24 December, Santa and his elf helpers will be in Cavill Mall each day for FREE family photos between 12pm and 3pm, and 4pm and 7pm, and kids can express post their Christmas wish lists to the North Pole.

Roving entertainers, including acrobatic elves and cheerful carollers lend a special element of holiday cheer, delighting crowds with their daily antics.

Carols on the Beach is also returning to Surfers Paradise on Sunday 20 December. Hosted by Charli Robinson and featuring some of the country’s most talented performers, the stage spectacular will be headlined by kids’ favourite Blinky Bill and Mitchell Steele from The Voice. Santa will be guest of honour at the event, while a fireworks finale will light the skies from a special ocean barge at 8pm.
