Sun Peaks Resort is a favourite ski destination among Australian families and has some of the most expansive ski terrain in Canada, not to mention one of the most convenient, charming villages in North America that makes every ski holiday special and memorable.
Sun Peaks is excited to announce Australian Olympic athletes Ben Sim (Nordic) and Ramone Cooper (Moguls), both of whom competed for Australia during the 2010 Winter Games, are joining the Sun Peaks Family Cup this coming season (January 2 to 16, 2013).
The announcement is a result of an enhanced long term partnership with the Interschools New South Wales organising committee. Both Ben and Ramone will be inviting skiers from Australia to join them at Sun Peaks for the family focused recreational ski races and activities.
Activities planned during the Family Cup include:
The event is held on a modified dual slalom course for children and adults of all ages and all abilities. The youngest participant has been 2 years old, whilst the oldest has been in their 80’s. Family and/or group members can choose to race against each other. Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each division (male and female), in skiing and snowboarding, as well as the smallest time difference between two runs on a course by the same participant. There are also perpetual trophies awarded for the fastest family, fastest group and overall Nations Award, which currently sits with Australia.
Held in conjunction with the Family Cup is the 15th annual Winter Wine Festival (January 12 to 20, 2013). The Winter Festival of Wine is a unique marriage of culinary events, wine tastings, educational seminars, and outdoor recreation showcasing the famous wine varietals of BC’s Okanagan Wine Country. Whether you consider yourself a ‘wine rookie’ or a ‘sommelier in disguise,’ this festival has daily events to entice every palette.
Canada is one of only two countries in the world with the ability to manufacture authentic Icewines. Guests from afar can appreciate this unique Canadian offering during the Worshipping Ice-wine’s seminar. A specially chosen ambassador from the Okanagan brings guests the very best of the finest Ice-wine’s from the region. Guests can prepare to taste the elixir of the gods – whatever their religion!
