2: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
From Walt Disney Animation Studios, Moana, is a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. With the help of the once-mighty demi-god Maui (Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson), they traverse the open ocean on a voyage that sees them encounter enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
3: The Disney Moana Story Inspiration
Directors Ron Clements and John Musker (the duo behind ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’) spent time in the Pacific Islands to get a better understanding of the people, places, traditions and mythologies that would help form the inspiration for the ‘Moana’ story, and help them tell that story respectfully. The film took five years to make.
4: A New Star Is Born
It’s the film debut for 16-year-old Hawaiian, Auli’i Cravalho, who beat out hundreds of candidates from across the Pacific to win the role of Moana.
5: First Film In Tahitian
‘Moana’ will be the first feature film ever translated into the Tahitian language.
6: Disney Moana – Original Soundtrack
‘Moana’ features an original soundtrack, with songs written by Tony-award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda alongside Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i. Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock (Maui) and Auli’i Cravalho (Moana) both sing in the movie – and both are very impressive singers!
7: Disney Moana Themed Aircrafts
In collaboration with The Walt Disney Studios, Hawaiian Airlines has unveiled three Moana-themed Airbus A330 aircraft, each emblazoned with ‘Moana’ imagery! You can head to their website and track these very special planes as they make their voyages to the Hawaiian Islands and other Hawaiian Airlines destinations.
