There’s plenty of action across NSW over Easter and the first term School Holidays so grab the kids and introduce them to some wonderful, educational, fun activities.
From the far south coast of the state to the Hunter Valley, here are just a few great holiday ideas to keep kids entertained!
Kids will be hopping into the garden this Easter Holidays with Eden Gardens North Ryde’s interactive holiday program and fun and educational Easter Egg Hunt in the Garden.
Chomp into the exciting world of meat-eating plants, see the beauty and learn about the important role of flowers. Spark your toddler’s interest in gardening with Eden’s fun and educational workshops running from 16-20 April. The Easter Egg Hunt will have inquisitive kids winding their way through the gardens, answering greenie questions and finding Easter treats along the way. Suited to 5-10yr olds the hunt will be running from 11:30am on 7-9 April and costs $10 per child.
Did you know that some plants eat meat? This session lets kids get up close and personal with weird and wonderful Carnivorous plants. From Venus Fly Traps to Sundews, this fun and factual workshop teaches participants how they grow and what they eat. The best part? Participants will take home their very own insect eater! 5 – 7 year olds: Wednesday 18 or Friday 20 April, 10 – 11.30am and 8 – 12 year olds: Friday 20 April, 12.30pm – 2pm. Cost is $16 per child per session.
Get beyond the beauty of flowers and take every child’s natural interest in flora to the next level with this session. Fascinating flowers lets kids discover the meaning behind the different forms, colours and scents of flowers, as well as their role in nature. Mums will love this course too, as attendees can make a blooming, living gift for Mother’s Day. 5 – 7 year olds: Monday 16 or Tuesday 17 April, 10 – 11.30am
and 8 – 12 year olds: Monday 16 April, 12.30pm – 2pm. Cost is $16 per child per session.
An ideal introduction into the world of gardening, Little Green Thumbs lets toddlers (and their dad or mum) explore the fascinating world of plants. Fun and educational, Little Green Thumbs boasts games, craft and toddler-friendly gardening activities which are suited to 3-5 year olds and their adult companions. Cost is $12 per child. Tuesday 17 April, 10am – 11am and Friday 20 April,- 10am – 11am.

The Jollybops Science Show is a character based science show, bringing science alive through exciting, stimulating and interactive demonstrations. Presented through the guise ofthe comic duo, the Jolly Wizard and Rusty the Robot. The shows combine colourful and explosive scientific demonstration, witty one liners, scientific dialogue and even science songs for the younger audiences. Pantomime, scientific explanations and humor are adjusted for the varying age groups. Show times are 10.30am & 1.30pm.
Hunter Valley Gardens very own Storybook Garden themed Jumping Castle will be onsite at only $3.00 per ride, 10.00am – 2.00pm (Weather Permitting).
Join our host for craft activities and painting. Craft materials will be supplied. 10.00am – 2.00pm.
Parents and children can enjoy a train touraround the Gardens. A charge of $7.00 per adultand $5.00 per child will apply.
Starts at 9.00am. Children will be given a treasure hunt on entry and at their own pace can fill in the answers, learning lots of interesting and trivial details as they explore the many themed spaces at Hunter Valley Gardens. When completed, hand it in to the Customer Service staff in exchange for a special prize.

There’s always loads of thrills and spills and mega family fun to be had at Jamberoo! Just over an hour out of Sydney, the action here starts with a capital ‘A’! Designed to cater for kids of all ages and interests. Children aged 5-12 will have heaps of fun on the FREE Mystical Creatures Egg Hunt from 10.30am–noon on 11 and 18 April at the mysterious Newington Armory.
A hunt for creatures will also be on in the mangroves at Bicentennial Park on 12 and 19 April, except the creatures will be of a creepy-crawly kind! To Untangle the Web of information and find five of the Park’s non-venomous spiders, kids will need to collect clues at various points of the FREE self-guided walk – but must be accompanied by an adult to participate.
Kids will enjoy the range of good-value art workshops at the Armory Gallery this Easter. With FREE entry to the ARTEXPRESS at the Armory 2012 exhibition, kids aged 5-8 can learn how to create Animal Sculptures using recycled materials on 10 April and Colour and Light Painting techniques on 17 April.
Colour and natural light painting techniques will also be taught to kids aged 9-13 at the Armory Gallery during a College and Mixed Media Workshop on 10 April, and on 17 April a Printmaking Workshop will also be offered to 9-13 year old artists. Kids who are more adventurous than creative will find loads of fun on 19 April at Bicentennial Park, where the Orienteering Space Race Challenge will start adjacent to Lilies on the Park café. Perfect for talented map-readers aged 8-12 who like solving puzzles on the run, the 45 minute activity costs $10 per child including maps and tuition.
Just like the Easter Bunny, kids will also have a bouncing good time at Trampoline and Other Fun Stuff at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on 16, 17, 19 and 20 April. The one-hour clinic will teach kids aged 5-8 and 9-12 the basics of trampolining under the guidance of a qualified instructor, and for only $16.50 per child.
