Carousel in Rundle Mall


Kids can ride on the Rundle Mall Carousel every day from December 10 to January 6 - open day and night! There's also a GIANT gingerbread house in the Mall and GIANT Christmas trees with sweets, candy canes and Ferrero Rocher chocolates.

Woolworths Carols by Candlelight


Held at Elder Park on Sunday, December 15 this is a great family event with food, fireworks and special guest, Samantha Jade!

Gates open at 2pm with loads of pre-Carols activities and fun kicking off from 3pm under the Woolworths Dome.

Community carols commence at 7pm led by local celebrities with the official concert start time at 8pm. This is a FREE event with fundraising on the night going to benefit children's charities.

Christmas Tree Seedling Give Away

Want to plant and grow your very own Christmas Tree?

1500 Christmas tree seedlings are being given away to visitors on Saturday December 14 in the North Adelaide precinct. Local charities will also be on-hand selling Christmas goods. Click here for more information.

Lights of Lobethal Festival


Each year in the township of Lobethal, approximately 800 homes are decorated in lights of many different designs and complexities, which illuminate the town and valley. Each household designs their own display and supplies and pays for their own power.

Visit for FREE from 8.30pm to 11pm, Monday to Sunday until December 30.

Other special attractions include the Living Nativity and the Christmas Tree Festival. The culmination of these events is the Lobethal Christmas Pageant.

Archers Arcadia Exhibition and Wacky Wire Critterbugs Workshop at the State Library


Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it's show time as David Archer presents his intriguing artworks, sensational sideshows and amazing interactive spectacles.

Inspired in the tradition of Victorian and Edwardian amusements from seaside piers, circuses and travelling fairs, Archers' artworks provide an escape into fantasy and gives humorous insight into the human condition.

Pull handles, wind cranks or push levers to bring these artworks to life. Dare to gaze into peepholes and be drawn into magical dioramas. See the life-size water powered swine, or even have your fortune told by a mechanical Gypsy!

Wacky Wire Workshops will be running on December 18 and on January 8, 15 and 22, 2014 from 10am-3pm. Bookings are essential!


A fun day where participant's design and make their own "Critterbug" using colourful wire, beads, aluminium shim, jewels, and small found objects to enhance their creation; the wackier the better!

The Critterbug will have flapping wings that move by a simple interactive mechanism and will be mounted on its own base, ready to be taken home and proudly displayed.

All materials supplied. Workshop costs $20.00 inc.GST per child.

The Cat in the Hat


From January 14-18, 2014, Dr. Seuss's famous Cat will be getting up to all kinds of mischief and mayhem at the Dunstan Playhouse in Festival Centre Drive.

Following a sold-out season at the Sydney Opera House, Adelaide gets the Cat treatment. Fun for the whole family and children under 12 months can enjoy the shenanigans FREE!

Maltesers Moonlight Cinema


Screening a variety of movies from advance previews, contemporary, cult, classic and children's films all on the lawns of Botanic Park. Enter the cinema via Plane Tree Drive.

Take the family to watch the preview of Disney's newest, Frozen, on December 20, Despicable Me 2 on December 29, Turbo on January 1 and Cloudy with a chance of meatballs on January 10.

Bring your own picnics or purchase a hot dinner and cold drinks at the cinema from the fully licensed caterer. You can even hire a bean bed to chill out (or snuggle up) on!

Featured movies include The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Anchorman: The Legend Continues, Gravity, Turbo and more. There will even be a Grease singalong night on January 9!

Perth City Christmas carnival


Bring the family into the city to enjoy a kids' carnival atmosphere in the centre of Perth. The Perth City Christmas Carnival will run on several Saturdays in December and features a visit from Santa and his helper.

FREE rides, face painting, Bouncy Castle, Mini Golf, Petting Zoo PLUS Roving Christmas characters and a Giant Snow Dome

From 11am-3pm on December 14 and December 21.

Check the Santa Train timetable and ride into the City with Santa! Be sure to keep an eye out for roving Santa handing out Christmas goodies and spreading Christmas cheer to shoppers.

IGA Carols By Candlelight


IGA Carols by Candlelight will be held at the Supreme Court Garden on Sunday, December 22. Featuring special guests Lucy Durack and Jay Weston, The Perth Carols Orchestra, a huge choir and a spectacular fireworks finale.

Picture a Story is an exhibition of original illustrations from Australian picture books from the 1970s to today.

Come and explore original artworks by Australia’s top illustrators and be taken on a journey through the imaginative world of a picture book illustrator. Along the way you’ll see colourful images of the Australian landscape, scenes of magic and fantasy as well as charming depictions of everyday life.

Entry is FREE ... plus there are great family activities each weekday from 10am - 2pm.
