Winter School Holidays in Queensland

Whodunit fun at the museum

Heist - action station 1

It’s a case of ‘catch me if you can’, with a dash of good old fashion cops and robbers for kids at the Heist event these winter school holidays, hosted by The Workshops Rail Museum, 28 June to 13 July.

Inspired by train robberies throughout the world, Heist gives children a variety of entertainment for the holidays from hands on activities and craft to train simulators and indoor play spaces. Kids can create their own identikit images of train robbers, and get dressed up and pose for ‘wanted’ pictures.

School holiday carnival fun

Brisbane Powerhouse is a world of carnival fun during the school holidays, with a special ‘Monster Circus’ theme for Powerkids 2014, offering more free activities than ever before, from Tuesday 1 – Sunday 6 July 2014.

Have a picnic lunch on the Monster Rug and watch the free Magnificent Monster Circus Show or kids can get involved, dress up and perform in the daily MonSTAR Gras! parade.

DJ Lance Rock and the cast of Yo Gabba Gabba! will be taking over the Powerhouse Theatre, with daily shows.

Fun and learning at ‘Out of the Box’ festival

Out of the Box

Let QPAC feed your child’s monster-sized imagination at the Out of the Box festival for children 8 years and under, from 25 June to 2 July. It’s jam-packed with exciting performances and activities that will leave your child inspired.

Kids have fun and learn through creative expression. Bring a group of friends and unwind with a coffee in The Courier-Mail Story Space while Queensland celebrity readers entertain the kids.

Explore the deep oceans … from dry land @ Queensland Museum

Queensland Museum Sciencentre 32508

Queensland Museum’s Deep Oceans showcases strange real-life creatures as well as myths and legends about fearsome monsters of the deep. See a giant squid and meet some of the real-life creatures that have inspired sea monster myths and legends.

Experiment with hands-on activities … test the effects of water pressure or see how colour appears at different depths. Small kids can learn as they follow characters from the Octonauts on their journey through the exhibition (Octonauts trail recommended for children under 5).

The magic of wind at the Ipswich Art Gallery

Design and build your very own flying creation to test in the Wind Tubes. See your creation take flight and soar to the ceiling, and defy gravity by hovering high overhead…. or just fall to the floor. It’s all about air and invention, with a little bit of mid-air mayhem.

Make a flying creation out of everyday materials and launch it into large, clear vertical tubes of moving air. Wind Tubes is a fun, interactive exhibition for the whole family.
